“If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end; if you look for comfort, you will not get either comfort or truth, only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin, and in the end, despair.” — C.S. Lewis
Lewis’s challenge to prioritize truth over comfort speaks directly to the intellectual and spiritual crossroads of young adulthood. As you encounter competing worldviews in college or the workplace, the temptation to settle for easy answers or feel-good philosophies is strong. Yet, Lewis reminds us that only the pursuit of truth—rooted in Christ—leads to lasting peace, even if the journey is uncomfortable.
This pursuit requires courage, especially when truth challenges your assumptions or cultural norms. You might wrestle with questions about morality, suffering, or God’s existence, fearing where honest inquiry might lead. But Jesus, who called Himself the Truth, invites you to seek Him with your whole mind and heart. Engaging Scripture, asking hard questions, and seeking wise counsel are acts of faith that anchor you in a reality stronger than fleeting comfort.
When doubt or pressure tempts you to compromise, lean into the pursuit of truth. Trust that God honors your seeking and will guide you to Himself. The discomfort of wrestling is worth the clarity and hope it brings. Never forget—you are loved and you are not alone.
